Why I’m Starting a Gratitude Journal (and Why You Might Want To, Too)

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to get caught up in the busy parts of life—the to-do lists, the stress, the things that aren’t going right. And honestly? It can feel heavy. But I’ve realized something simple: when I slow down and actually take a moment to notice the good things, my whole perspective shifts. That’s why I’m starting a gratitude journal.

There’s something about writing it down that makes gratitude stick. It’s one thing to think, “I’m thankful for this,” but when you put pen to paper, it feels more real, more lasting. It doesn’t have to be complicated—I’m just jotting down a few things each day, like the small moments that made me smile or something that made me feel grounded.

And here’s why I think right now is the perfect time to start: tomorrow is Monday. A brand-new week. A clean slate. There’s something about Mondays that feel like a fresh start (even if they usually come with a little groan). What if, instead of dreading Monday, we reframed it as the day we choose to start building a new habit—one that actually makes our days feel lighter and fuller?

So tonight, I’m going to grab a notebook and write down:

One thing that made me smile today

One person I’m grateful for

One little comfort that brought me peace

It doesn’t sound like much, but I know if I keep going, by the end of the week I’ll have pages filled with gratitude—and that’s a pretty powerful way to live.

If you’ve been needing a reset or a little more joy in your days, maybe this is your sign to start, too. Let’s make this Monday the start of something good.
